I've been a busy busy bee since the last time I posted. I managed to paint a Blythe head, a Figma tiny custom doll (twice), and a Volks YoSD Chinatsu, all different themes! The Blythe was an artist choice face up, the Figma got an elf ear mod and a cute anime-type face up, and the Volks became a cute little freckled girl.
Without further ado, onto some pictures under the cut!

Since I have run out of commissions, and don't have any new ones lined up, I've been redoing my own dolls. That's something I need to periodically do anyway, heh. This past week I had my Soom Beyla/Glot/Eliv with a Peapod Doll mermaid tail, and April Story Betty along with her hands on my work desk to be repainted. Without further ado, onto some pictures! So here we have my April Story Betty as well as her hands. Her hands had gotten horribly chipped since the last time I painted them. The blue french tip was a last minute decision, but I'm glad I did! Her face acquired two more piercings since last time (yes, I do applied piercings and can even imbed them in the resin if so requested), and her eyebrows are lighter to match her new wig! A quick comparison of her last and current face up. Her scar is less red this time, but still there. It simply looks more healed than previously. If you'd like to see a picture of her with her wig, I have one in the Owner Gallery! Next up is my Soom Beyla OE/human head in cream white. She's a little siren girl, so scales were a must! She was quite the restoration process. I'm at least her 3rd owner, and for some parts I'm at least the 4th. Her body is a Soom Glot torso with Soom Eliv arms and ears, and a Peapod Doll mermaid tail that I later uncovered to be a sakura pink color AND one of 2 with a fade from dark butt to lighter fin in this color! What a special little girl! I scored her on the DoA MP for a good price. She was double painted (as in she was painted once, and then painted over again without removing the previous paint job), and boy was that annoying to remove. First things first, I took her apart (some of her joints were glued together from acrylic paint...) and threw her to soak in some 99.9% isopropyl alcohol. I started with the little bowl to clean her torso of the caked on paint and the glitter. After much scrubbing I got at least her torso clean. Her hands were still with a lot of paint on them, so I left them to soak longer. I quickly realized she'd need to soak fully in alcohol for at least 24 hours to remove the remaining paint. So I did that. I poured 500ml of alcohol into some tupperware and put all her painted tail pieces in there. So here my suspicion of her fin being pink was confirmed! Under the hot pink and white paint was a layer of purple and gold. The purple and gold paint sadly stained her a little in places, but that's nothing I can't hide with the new blush job! After 1.5 days of soaking in 99.9% isopropyl alcohol, she was finally as clean as I was going to be able to get her. I replaced all the elastic in her and restrung her. She can do some cute things with her tail! Her face up is above obviously, but I haven't documented her body blush yet. So here she is all painted and refreshed! I slathered her in Aztec Gold PearlEx shimmer pigment after blushing her with reds. Please excuse the cruddy cell phone picture, my camera on my phone is getting dated...
The clothing is just spare stuff I had laying around, but the wig is hers and the eyes I specially made for her too. I wanted her to shimmer between gold and red as her parents are a Siren and a Fire Elemental. I think she suits them both! I'm so glad I got her after all as I'd been eyeing her on the MP for a few weeks already, trying to talk myself out of her. But I've wanted a YoSD mermaid for years now and was super sad when Peapod Doll closed... Either way, all's good! That's all from me for now, until next time! As the title says, only 2 days remain to partake in the Birthday Sale! Buy one service, get another at 30% off! Also I managed to crank out another commission, this time I repainted a Fairyland PukiFee Luna in tan skin. I matched her eyebrows and eyelashes to her wig, she turned out darling if I may say so. Without further ado, onto some pictures! The wig is a short little curly thing that is absolutely adorable, but I sadly don't have any pictures of it placed against her faceplate with the finished face up. I wasn't sent her eyes so I used the only pair I had in my jar that fit her eye-wells. In other news, I'm nearly completion with the Crobidoll Daydream Lance commission. His torso is mostly blushed, and his hands and feet are also just about done. Next come his arms and legs! No pictures currently as I'd only have some cell phone shots and they really don't show things well.
That's all from me for now, until next time! I had an itch to repaint one of my dolls, specifically my Dollzone April, because I didn't like how badly I over-blushed her. So shortly after completing my 400th face up, I'm already on my 401st! I also have an exciting FYI to share with you guys at the end of the post! Without further ado, onto some pictures! So here's my girls new face up! I kept the colors the same, just with much less blushing and switched up the designs a bit since the bangs of her wig hid the ones going up her head. I sadly fudged up the lips in the glossing stage, so I had to paint over them again. Oh well, better luck next time I suppose! Here you can see how much (or little) the face up changed. Also made her some bright green acrylic eyes, as the orange-hazel ones I'd made her previously made her look much too samey all over.
Now for the FYI! My 30th birthday is coming up fast here (April 1st, yes I am a joke and tell terrible jokes), so I wanted to do something special for it! How does 30% off sound to you guys? Rules are simple, they apply to any multipart commission I receive: Contact me from now until April 15th for a slot (I'll also honor multipart commissions I haven't received yet) for more than one service (i.e.: two face ups, body blush and face up, face up and manicure, etc...), pay one service full price, and any additional service will be 30% off! The most expensive service will be the full price one, and any additional ones will be at the discount. I'm willing again to take on up to 3 services per slot again, as I'm still trying to get a job so I have some time still. But do keep in mind that it will extend my turnaround time if I have more than one part to work on per slot! That's all from me for now, until next time! Cranked out a couple more face ups this week, one on a Fairyland MNF Momo and the other on my own Resinsoul Ai. I finally reached 400 completed face ups since I started painting dolls in August/September of 2011! The MNF Momo was a commission from a dear local friend, and the Resinsoul Ai is one of my own. Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up we have the Fairyland MNF Momo in natural skin. She belongs to a dear friend of mine, who also asked me to make her some eyes. I let them pick the color (lavender) and made them with acrylic bases in 12mm. 14mm eyes were far too big and her original eyes were also way too dark. She had come to me with a Default face up (and too big eyes), but my friend wanted her to be a lot more pink. The default face up was very pretty, but not exactly flattering, especially how they did her mouth. And here we have my Resinsoul Ai in fleshtone skin from 2011 named Zephyra. This face up is very special as it is my 400th! I finally reached this wonderful milestone, and to celebrate it I repainted Zephyra. It's tradition for me to repaint her every 99 face ups to be the next 100th. I always keep the theme the same, so that I can track my improvement better. Hard to believe that it only took 2 years to paint 99 face ups (and a bunch of fantasy and body parts) to get here. She's gone through so many face ups, only doll with that many in my collection is Val (Dollzone Chen), who I think I've also painted 5 times. I'll need to check at some point to see. Again, for this face up I used Citadel Munitorum Varnish for sealant, and I'm still having difficulties with it. It has a lot less tooth than MSC, so I had to layer quite a bit more than I usually do. But, shimmer shows up much better post-sealing with this sealant. MSC likes to pretty much dull it away unless I paint it on. Reaching 400 face ups also means that I can share my monster collage again. On my computer it's all one very long image file, but I broke it apart here so it's easier to zoom in and look at the face ups.
Man... I started this collage when I reached 50 face ups, that's why the first image was really.... diverse in backgrounds. I eventually figured out that keeping the same background is a better idea for unity! It also wasn't until last year that I got a photo light box to take pictures in. My documentation pictures definitely improved once I acquired one of those. Still learning how to set my camera for it so I don't have to do as much post-photo color and lighting corrections. That is all from me for today, until next time! While waiting on my last commission to arrive from this batch, I decided to repaint my Fairyland LTF Juri 2013 in natural skin. My wife gifted me for Christmas a second Juri2013 faceplate, that I modded to dreaming. I'm a sucker for having dolls with open and sleepy eyed looks. I was always sad that I would never be able to get that a dreaming/sleeping head for Aurora (my LTF Juri 2013) because she's an event faceplate. Then I realised I can mod! Anyway, without further ado, onto some pictures! I've been meaning to repaint Aurora for months, but I had to wait for her second faceplate to arrive so I could work on them together to keep them as close as possible. The first thing I did of course was mod the second faceplate from open to dreaming, which was a task and a half in itself. This is only my second time closing eyes. I don't do mods often, but I do enjoy them to be honest! I still need to paint her horns and wings, as well as possibly blush her little paws, before I can call her done again. She used to be purple themed, but I felt as a princess gold would be a much better color scheme for her! Her previous face up was a good 3 years old. It's kind of fun to see how much I've improved in just a couple of years! My eyebrows have definitely improved by leaps and bounds, as well as my painted eyelashes.
It's kind of funny, I'm looking forward to redoing my Resinsoul Ai (Zephyra) as I'm 4 face ups away from reaching 400 completed face ups. Zephyra always has to be the 100th face up, no matter how many heads I have laying around. It's tradition to see how much I've improved in 99 face ups since the last time I painted her. Anyway, that's all from me for now, until next time! With no commissions to paint currently, I've been slowly evaluating which ones of my dolls need a refresher. This weekend Val, my Dollzone Chen in normal yellow skin, got an updated look. His head matches his body better too now! Without further ado, onto some pictures! So here's my handsome man. I wanted to mute his colors a bit to look more sickly I suppose? He's a vampire after all and shouldn't look as lively as he was. The part I'm most proud of in this face up are the eyebrows. I spent a long time on shaping and painting them! Here's the quick comparison of his old to new look. This is literally the 5th face up I've done on him, and I think I finally gave him eyelashes successfully. Though he did fight me on gluing them in place. I will end this post with the above comparison of all the face ups he's had so far.
Until next time! With being out of commissions to currently do, I decided to repainted a floating head of mine as an alt-head for one of my own dolls. Her last face up was stubborn to remove, but hey, it didn't stain! The head is an Impldoll Azalea Elf, and her last face up I "lovingly" nicknamed the Candy Abomination. Without further ado, onto the pictures! So here we have my spare Impldoll Azalea Elf head in real skin. I decided to give her a glam look as my doll's other head is naturally painted without any make up. This face up took roughly 3 hours to complete, like half an hour of that was waiting for the glue to dry! Here we have her two heads side by side. I painted the left head back in 2016 I think, so it's been a while! My blushed has definitely gotten softer and with better gradients. I also added "piercings" to her glam head that I painted yesterday, as the character is meant to have a bunch of them. They're just glued on though. And I'll end this entry with the comparison of the face ups on this head. Now you can see what I mean with "candy abomination" on the before face up. Though I do love the new one!
That's all for now, until next time! It's been a while since I've updated the site, so I cleaned up the example gallery a little, removing older face ups to keep the rest more up to date to my current skill level. I also repainted my Fairyland LTF Dark Elf Soo in tan skin because her old face up had bothered me for a while... I'll get to the FYI after the face up pictures. Here's my little cutie! I actually had to start over 2/3 of the way through the face up because I hated how her blushing was coming out. It looked like she'd gotten sunburnt! But that is a shame that I did not document with photos, so let's just sweep that failure under the rug to be forgotten forever. Here's the comparison of her previous to current face up. I've owned her since 2013 I think (got her secondhand), and her last face up was on her for a good 4 years, so it was time to redo it. What was entertaining was that she has yellowed in that time, except under her old eyebrows. I'm not the most careful with my own dolls, but commissions I treat with waaaay more respect than my own because I don't care if my dolls yellow. But I don't want to do that to a client's doll!
Anyway, onto the FYI: I'm closing new commissions for the moment because I have so many multipart ones incoming that I want to devote my time to. I'd rather keep my turn around time as it is while I'm looking for a full time job here again. I will make a blog post and update the landing page of my site when I'm ready to take on more again! That is all for now, until next time! This month has been exceptionally slow for commissions, but that's okay! There's always next month too, where I have some commissions lined up already. Anyway, the new work I got to show is one for myself, and one was a commission from a dear friend! My own is a Doll in Mind Gayane in normal skin, who'd been a gift from a friend before I left the USA. The commission is a Youlpa Dolls Zenji in normal skin. Without further ado, onto some pictures! First up the commission, the Youlpa Dolls Zenji in normal skin, I think at least. He's meant to look like he hasn't slept in ages, and lives off of coffee and caffeine in general. It was a lot of fun to give him mighty eyebrows and eye circles. That's why I love commissions, I get to paint things on dolls I'd never think of doing with my own even! He's a floating head currently, but my friend is saving up for a body for him. Then here's Autumn, my Doll in Mind Gayane. She's got quite the history being a gift from a friend! She'd been her first doll, after I snared her into the hobby. She fell out of love with her and decided to gift her to me shortly before my move. My wife and I were going to take her with us on the plane as all our stuff had already been mailed by that point, including all but one of our other dolls. We hit some big snafu's on the flight, like our carry-ons being too heavy, so we had to check one of them. One of our suitcases was too heavy as well so we had to leave a bunch of stuff behind with a friend, one of them being Autumn. My friend finally was able to mail her back to me this past month, but her head-cap wasn't included. She hasn't found it yet, so while she searches, I made her one out of Fimo and magnets to tide her over. Here's her before and after I repainted her. She had had a default face up, which was pretty, but it's no secret I have to paint all my own dolls or I can't bond with them. I'm slowly working on modding her body to be better functioning.
The DiM Happy Glamour Body is... janky at best. I restrung her with fresh elastic, and elongated the elastic slots on her thighs. Next up is hollowing out her hip sockets so she stops rocking back on her butt and finally sits up straight. I've never done mobility mods like this before, so it's kind of exciting! Anyway, this is all for now! I'm still open for commission as my slots aren't filled. I'm itching to paint more dolls! Maybe I'll repaint my Fairyland LTF DES next... Until next time! I think I finally beat the crud for the most part, so to celebrate I repainted my girl Winter. She is a Soom MD Beyla Romantic head on a Fairyland LTF body with Daisy Dayes hooves. She's a fun little hybrid! I've been meaning to repaint her for several months now, especially since I gave her little wings that I painted for her in December. I need to get some full body pictures of her sometime.
Anyway, onto some pictures under the cut! Sorry for dropping off of the face off the earth, but I was a busy bee this past weekend to make up for it! I completed 2 face ups and started on another.
The two I finished were a CP Luts Delf modded SS Chiwoo and a Switch Shiho. The third face up I started on is on a Doll Love YouYou. I also never showed the color matched Doll Leaves Dreaming Jax! I'll need to post her too. Without further ado, onto some pictures! I'm on a roll! I repainted Mort, my Dragondoll Cheng in white skin, finally!! Only took me, what, 5 and a half years? I somehow stripped the years off of him though as he's usually meant to be an older character. Now he kind of looks like a J-pop star or something. I blame the eyelashes. I'm leaving the face up in place to see if it grows on me more. Without further ado, onto some pictures! Seems like my last few face ups have all been a very blue theme, though this guy is meant to have light blue skin but is white so I blushed him accordingly. He's yellowed a lot over the last 6 years, he used to be a lot brighter in color! No big deal though, he's from 2009 and I've owned him since 2011 (I'm his first owner, poor guy sat in a warehouse for 2 years!). He was a gift from my mom for Christmas, but I got him during the Junkyspot black Friday sale in 2011. Here are all the face ups he's had to date. The top left corner was his company default and made him look like a vulcan drag queen. Nothing against Vulcans, drag queens, or a combo, but he simply isn't one. The top right face up was my 8th face up ever, but I didn't have his wig yet so I couldn't properly color match. Then the bottom left was my 20th face up that I kept on him for over 5 years because it was just that perfect. It became outdated though... now the bottom right face up is his current look where I tried to give him eyelashes again for my 308th face up. We'll see how long I keep this face up on him. Hopefully not another 5.5 years! At least now I know that my face ups can stand the test of time, haha! I'll end the post here with a dashing picture of him put together. Until next time!
Now that everything is put away and we're all settled in Vienna, I'm finally open for commissions again! My prices are a little higher than they used to be, but I feel I've improved enough since the last price raise almost a year ago to warrant it. I switched my prices into Euro from US Dollars. Now for the new work! I finally repainted Susi, my April Story Betty in normal skin, as I never liked her old face up. Plus the booger chipped the blushing along her nose! Without further ado, onto some pictures! I decided to give her piercings this time around as she's a punk-type character. I'm much much happier with the eyelashes this time around, and the scar too! Here's a quick before and after comparison of the face ups. Both are by me, but the second is much better in my opinion. There isn't even that much time between the two face ups. I guess I was more patient with the second one! I'll end this post with the picture of her put together above.
Maybe for my next face up I'll finally repaint Mort, my Dragondoll Cheng! He's had the same face up for a good 5 years now, if not longer! Until next time! I had a very productive Saturday yesterday, I did 3 face ups from start to finish! I painted a HZ Wang-Ye in tan skin, a Fairyland MNF RFA event head in natural skin, and a Resinsoul Rong head in white skin. The two MSD sized heads were from one client, and the Wang-Ye was from another. I have one more doll to do for that client and everyone can go home! Anyway, without further ado, onto some pictures! First up is the HZ Wang-Ye, or as the client calls him "Mr. Angry-Face". He came with a face up already which the client wanted me to redo with more anger in the brows. Before he kinda just looked like "Meh", now he's full on rage! Figuring out the blushing palette was interesting as his resin is kind of translucent. Here's his before and after image. The client asked me to keep the designs as close as possible like on the first face up, but with some small modifications. He's definitely an angry doll! Next up are the two MSD sized heads for a different client! I always love working on their dolls. First up is the Fairyland MNF RFA event head in natural skin. With this face up I was asked for freckles along the cheeks and nose, natural blushing and make up. I always love doing freckles, pity hardly any of my dolls have them! Then last, but certainly not least, is the Resinsoul Rong in white skin. She's a woodland sprite/nymph and I was asked to keep her color scheme in tune with that, but otherwise I had a lot of freedom. She was oddly yellowed in the face, which is really strange as she's been in a bag since the client dropped her off with me. I managed to cover it with the face up at least!
That's all for now, until next time! |
